Our Research
We are assessing 30 homes built in 1986 or earlier in Orange County and Albemarle County, Virginia. Our environmental health assessments include lead in drinking water, E. coli, nitrates, mold, and housing conditions.
Lead in Drinking Water
Testing drinking water for lead using EPA-approved sampling methodology to help identify potential lead exposure in participating homes.
Nitrates
Measuring levels of nitrates in groundwater to ensure safe levels for drinking water and the health of our ecosystem.
E. coli
Testing for the presence of harmful bacteria in water to prevent gastrointestinal illness and protect public health.
Mold
Evaluating indoor air quality for mold growth to ensure safe and healthy living environments for families and students.
EPA APPROVED METHODOLOGY
The Safe Water & Housing Initiative is grounded in rigorous environmental health science. Dr. Gloria Crosslin, DHA, authored the project's Quality Assurance Project Plan (QAPP), which has been formally reviewed and approved by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
